Hoshin Kanri and the X-Matrix
Loosely translated from Japanese, Hoshin means “direction needle” and Kanri means “control logic”. In short, “controlling direction” or more simply recognized, “policy deployment”. If your organization, department, or project have suffered from a lack of direction or cohesion in meeting top level objectives then learning the concepts of Hoshin Kanri might be the answer you’ve been waiting for. In this session Chris will familiarize participants with the concepts of Hosin Kanri and introduce the X-matrix, a simple tool used to sustain focus at all levels of the organization or project.

Description: Starting off the year on a personal note with James Petersen of World Class Transformations teaching us about the methods for sustaining change in both our personal and professional lives.
No matter the continent they live on, people have a desire to be better than what they currenty are. They try program-after-program (i.e., time management, weight loss, counseling, financial planning, etc ) with no lasting/sustainable change. In fact, 85% or more of all personal initiatives fail within the first few months of “kick off”.
If this sounds familiar, ASQ invites you to participate in their September 2011 “kick-off” Dinner Event entitled “Personal Transformation - The road less traveled“. This presentation, facilitated by James Petersen, President of World Class Transformation, will help participants understand why their personal initiatives fail, the four steps to lasting change, and how the principles taught are applied to all aspects of life including work.
Come start the new ASQ year off on “The road less traveled - it will make all the difference”.

Business objectives are the critical foundation of any organization. They are a also a requirement of a quality systems that conform to quality system standards like ISO9001 and of course they are an integral part of any continuous improvement journey whether your chosen methodology is 6-Sigma, Lean or any other improvement philosophy.Join Paul as he describes how the traditional Cost of Quality concepts can be used to assure that the needs of quality become part of your business objectives. Business objectives are based on the financial needs/metrics of an organization. Converting quality into financial terms using the Cost of Quality changes quality issues into the language of Sr. Leadership (profit, revenue, growth, cost reduction, etc).

Visual Workplace - Chris Hayes MEP
Posted on February 1st, 2011 No commentsTitle: March Dinner Event - Visual Workplace - Chris Hayes MEP
Location: TBD
Description: For decades, visual methods and outcomes have helped companies everywhere on their journey to excellence. This presentation will show you what workplace visuality is, why it’s so important, and how the technologies of the visual workplace can help.
Start Time: 18:00
Date: 2011-03-10
End Time: 20:00As we define it, a Visual Workplace is: an environment that is self-ordering, self-explaining, self-regulating and self-improving-where what is supposed to happen does happen, on time, every time, day or night-because of visual devices. Such an environment is populated by hundreds, even thousands, of visual devices and solutions, created by a workforce that knows how to think visually. These devices translate vital information into exact behavior so we do the right thing, correctly, on-time, and safely. Whether you are a manufacturer, automotive supplier, food processing plant, office, hospital, bank, military depot or open-pit mine, visuality works powerfully to improve your bottom line-reliably triggering a 15% to 30% improvement in productivity as well as prodigious benefits for the work culture and senior leadership. Whether you already implemented Lean or Six Sigma principles and practices, or are not yet ready to undertake either, visual is the glue that aligns the entire organization and holds it together making improvement gains sustainable.
This session is an overview of the basics of the Visual Workplace.

Using proven hands-on methodology, teams of employees learn the tools and immediately apply them to a real business problem in their functional area. Measurable results are key to process improvement. The teams collect data, analyze it to find solutions, and then test the results, using metrics. Once the solutions are proven effective, they are implemented and then monitored to ensure that the results are sustained.
