Project Scope/Mission Statements That Work - Really!
Quality Basics - Best Practices
Workshop Teaser
So, there’s a problem at work, and you’ve been asked to participate as a member of a task force charged with “getting it fixed.”
A decent Root Cause Analysis has already been completed. However, the elements of a Corrective Action Plan are not readily obvious to all participants - who have a wide variety of backgrounds and points of view. No consensus seems to be forming.
Your sensitivity to group dynamics tells you the group is unlikely to ever really agree on, and get behind, the “HOW” (the “DO” of PDCA) until they agree on “WHAT” they ultimately want to accomplish — the “Plan” of PDCA, or the “Define” phase of DMAIC.
But you’re not sure what method to use to clarify and achieve genuine alignment quickly enough to hold everyone’s attention…, unless you attended the October Golden Spike dinner meeting, where you learned a low-risk technique for creating powerful Project Scopes or Mission Statements that will enable you to focus everyone on a common goal in less than an hour.
This is the same workshop that was presented in 2009 at the Audit Division Conference in Tucson and in March of 2010 at the Quality Management Division Conference in New Orleans, and was also featured in the May-June issue of The Auditor.
Presenter Information:
Raymond L. Hanson brings a passion for optimizing performance, and over 30 years of broad business experience, to the organizations with which he is involved.
After earning a degree in Chemistry and an MBA in Finance and Systems from Brigham Young University, he worked in commercial equipment lending for six years with Fortune 100 companies, including Citicorp, Wells Fargo, and GE Capital.
Subsequent to perfecting a streamlined strategic business planning process at a Fortune 50 computer manufacturer, Mr. Hanson used the process as the basis of a strategic planning consulting practice for eight years. In all, he worked closely with over 70 organizations, in all states of business health and stages of growth - with most of them going on to achieve outstanding results.
Ray worked for seven years as the quality manager (Continuous Improvement Facilitator), lead internal quality auditor, and de-facto ISO Management Rep, for a former client, WesTech Engineering - an ISO 9001:2008-certified environmental process equipment designer and manufacturer headquartered in Salt Lake. He is currently their Lean Implementation Coach. Mr. Hanson has done post-graduate work in Decision Support Systems, as well as Strategic Management, at MIT’s Sloan School of Management.
He holds CMQ/OE and CQA designations from ASQ, is current Chair for ASQ section 0615 in Salt Lake, and is a participating member of TC 176, the group responsible for the next version of ISO 9001.
AUTO CONFIRMATION IS NOT CURRENTLY WORKING CORRECTLY. YOU WILL RECEIVE AN AUTO CONFIRMATION ERROR MESSAGE, HOWEVER YOUR RESERVATION HAS BEEN SUBMITTED AND RECEIVED.

Start Time: 6:00pm
End Time: 9:00 pmBack by popular demand!!! Due to the popularity of the Certified Quality Auditor and Certified Quality Engineer certification exam prep classes held last year, ASQ Golden Spike Section is offering the Certified Manager of Quality / Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE) certification exam prep class beginning in February. As a benefit to its members and local businesses, and thanks to section member John Lee of Alpha QC, the section is offering the class at next to no cost to its members. The only cost will be the price of purchasing the primer for the class ($75 plus shipping) and the cost of the exam. Compared to the $500-$600 cost of the typical prep class, this offer is a steal! At this rate, you can’t afford not to invest in yourself or your employees. John is one of the best resources for local certification training. The class you will receive is the exact same class that is offered at Weber State. Don’t miss out on this opportunity.
ASQ certifications provide the quality professional with evidence that he/she has the skills and knowledge to take their organizations to the next level in quality; a must for competitive advantage. In today’s competitive market, employers are insisting that new hires and existing employees obtain their certifications. Employers understand that ASQ certifications are based on a Body of Knowledge created by leading industry experts which contain the key to unlocking the knowledge that their organization needs in order to stay competitive in today’s markets. Individuals in the market for new employment are quickly realizing that ASQ certification is what is setting some applicants apart from the hundreds of others that apply for each position.
There are three stipulations for participating in this class:
1. Participants MUST be members of the Golden Spike Section (or pay $100 if you are a member of another section). Sign up at http://www.asq.org/membership/members/your-benefits.html

March Dinner Meeting - Theory of Constraints with Scott Jensen

Â
Â
Title:Â Theory of Constraints
When:Â March 11, 2010
Time: 6pm - 8pm
Where:Â BATC - 335 W 1100 S, Brigham City
Dinner:Â Fried Chicken, Cole Slaw, Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, Rolls, Drink
Cost:Â $15/person (Dinner and Presentation) or $10/person (Presentation Only)
Scott Jensen is the President and CEO of Control-Point-Technologies. The author of several articles on the Continuous Improvement methods, Scott Jensen is recognized as one of Utah’s foremost experts and implementers of the TOC body of knowledge and one of the nations chief promoters. With over 25 years of industry experience, Scott’s career has been divided between management, teaching, and consulting roles. Now, in a teaching and consulting role at Weber State University and Control Point Technologies, Scott’s areas of specialty include constraints management and lean manufacturing.
Many organizations struggle with their continuous improvement efforts. Achieving real bottom line results, whether in cost savings or increased revenues, has proven to be difficult. In spite of the widespread implementation of Lean and Six Sigma principles, poor results can persist. An integration of three methods, TOC, Lean, and Six Sigma (The TLS process) can generate 5 to 10 times better performance than Lean or Six Sigma alone. In this session, Scott will explain some of the reasons why, and how using these three synergistic methods together can transform your system into a competitive weapon! Don’t miss this opportunity to learn what your Lean or Six Sigma initiatives might be missing.
