Tour the Pepperidge Farm, located in Richmond, Utah. This facility started production in 1973, producing cookies, crackers and garlic bread. Their niche products are Milano Cookies, Goldfish crackers. This facility is AIB inspected and SQF (Safe Quality Foods) certifed.

Pepperidge Farm GMPs (Key Points)

1. Visitors should give consideration to the type of clothing worn and must avoid materials that may easily shed. Breast pockets on clothing should not be used during the visit.

2. Shoes are required in all areas of the plant. Open toed shoes, sandals, clogs, crocs, and high heels are permitted in the front office area only. Soles of shoes should be of a material and the type of construction that will provide safe and sure footing throughout the plant.  There may be wet floors throughout the facility so please be aware of where you are walking and pay attention to wet floor signs.

3. No jewelry may be worn, including bracelets, earrings, necklaces, wristwatches, pins/brooches, tie tacs/clips - with the following exceptions:

a.             One tight-fitting band without stones may be worn on one hand only.  For your safety, we recommend no rings be worn in production areas.

b.             Medical alert jewelry may be worn if necessary for visitor safety.

4.  Hair curlers, hairpins, bobby pins, hair combs, straight pins, safety pins, false eyelashes, etc., are not permitted in the plant.  Plain large barrettes or hair clips that do not have beads, sequins, etc. may be worn under hairnets to help contain the hair.

5. Visitors need to be alert to allergens such as nuts, peanuts, peanut butter, eggs, dairy, fish, shellfish, sesame seeds & soy, etc. and they need to make sure they do not handle or introduce allergens to the facility

Registration begins at 6pm with dinner being served at 6:15pm.  We’ve got a Mexican theme for dinner this year and will be serving taco meat and chicken with tortillas and all the toppings.  Dessert is included as are unlimited drinks. 

The evening includes three games of Monte Carlo bowling with cash prizes and one game of miniature golf.   Other prize drawings to follow.  The cost for the night is $20/person.

Logan Regional Hospital-Lean Overview

Intermountain Healthcare’s “Urban North Region”, comprised of McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden, Bear River Hospital in Tremonton, and Logan Regional Hospital launched our Lean initiative, branded i2 (Innovate and Improve) in 2009. We’ve focused on educating leadership and front line staff on Lean philosophy and implementing basic Lean tools such as standard work, kaizen, 5S, waste identification and elimination, and value stream mapping. In the two years since the beginning of our Lean journey, Logan Regional has had nearly 2,000 employee ideas implemented, over 50 process improvement projects completed, and cost savings of over $700,000 as well as significant improvements in clinical quality, patient satisfaction, and employee engagement.

Presenter: Joe Frandsen
Joe graduated from BYU with a degree in Manufacturing Engineering and has been with Intermountain Healthcare for 2 years as a Management Engineer. Joe is responsible for overseeing the implementation and maintenance of Lean systems in the hospital and provides support to clinical and ancillary staff as well as hospital administration on all Lean initiatives. Joe facilitates process improvement projects in all hospital departments and helps assist project teams with data collection, process mapping, and statistical analysis. Joe also works with IHC regional Management Engineering group in their efforts to translate Lean manufacturing concepts into a healthcare context.

Business objectives are based on the financial needs/metrics of an organization.
