Registration begins at 6pm with dinner being served at 6:15pm.  We’ve got a Mexican theme for dinner this year and will be serving taco meat and chicken with tortillas and all the toppings.  Dessert is included as are unlimited drinks. 

The evening includes three games of Monte Carlo bowling with cash prizes and one game of miniature golf.   Other prize drawings to follow.  The cost for the night is $20/person.

Coolpix Camera, Garmin GPS, 8g flashdrives, Kindle book reader, roadside assistance kits, holiday treats, flashlight sets, gift certificates to your favorite places and many other really great prizes.

This year the Golden Spike section is supporting our community by donating food to the Utah Food Bank.  For every non-perishable item you bring to the party, your name will be entered into a special drawing for a very special prize.  There are no limits to the number of items you can bring so go through those cupboards and take advantage of those sales at the grocery store.  This is also a great opportunity to get your children involved in the gift of giving.  And while you have the chance to earn yourself extra chances of winning a great prize, you will be helping those in your communities that are less fortunate.  This is the time of giving and every little bit helps.  Help us make a difference.

Description:    Got questions about how to keep your certifications from expiring and you don’t want to retake that 5 hour test again?  Come to the monthly section meeting to hear from Taryn Lawton, Golden Spike Recertification Chairperson, and the rest of the Golden Spike Leadership Team as we discuss and answer those questions about the recertification process.

Please bring the following items to the meeting with you:

1.  Your copy of the recertification journal sent with your certificate from ASQ.  If you have misplaced or lost your journal, please use the following link to print a new copy:

Golden Spike Section Monthly Dinner Meeting and Tour - Innovate and Improve
Logan Regional Hospital-Lean Overview

Intermountain Healthcare’s “Urban North Region”, comprised of McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden, Bear River Hospital in Tremonton, and Logan Regional Hospital launched our Lean initiative, branded i2 (Innovate and Improve) in 2009. We’ve focused on educating leadership and front line staff on Lean philosophy and implementing basic Lean tools such as standard work, kaizen, 5S, waste identification and elimination, and value stream mapping. In the two years since the beginning of our Lean journey, Logan Regional has had nearly 2,000 employee ideas implemented, over 50 process improvement projects completed, and cost savings of over $700,000 as well as significant improvements in clinical quality, patient satisfaction, and employee engagement.

Presenter: Joe Frandsen
Joe graduated from BYU with a degree in Manufacturing Engineering and has been with Intermountain Healthcare for 2 years as a Management Engineer. Joe is responsible for overseeing the implementation and maintenance of Lean systems in the hospital and provides support to clinical and ancillary staff as well as hospital administration on all Lean initiatives. Joe facilitates process improvement projects in all hospital departments and helps assist project teams with data collection, process mapping, and statistical analysis. Joe also works with IHC regional Management Engineering group in their efforts to translate Lean manufacturing concepts into a healthcare context.

Description: Starting off the year on a personal note with James Petersen of World Class Transformations teaching us about the methods for sustaining change in both our personal and professional lives.

No matter the continent they live on, people have a desire to be better than what they currenty are.  They try program-after-program (i.e., time management, weight loss, counseling, financial planning, etc ) with no lasting/sustainable change.  In fact, 85% or more of all personal initiatives fail within the first few months of “kick off”.

 If this sounds familiar, ASQ invites you to participate in their September 2011 “kick-off” Dinner Event entitled “Personal Transformation - The road less traveled“.  This presentation, facilitated by James Petersen, President of World Class Transformation, will help participants understand why their personal initiatives fail, the four steps to lasting change, and how the principles taught are applied to all aspects of life including work.

James Petersen is the President of World Class Transformation Incorporated, a hands on consulting firm that assists organizations in their Transformation-to- world class. James has a degree in manufacturing engineering technology and a master’s degree in technology management from Brigham Young University. 

Over the past 18 years he has worked in the manufacturing, health care, aerospace, construction, education & legal sectors of industry. Focused on enterprise transformation, James and his team have developed a unique approach in transferring knowledge, skill, and ability to core influencers within an organization.  These influencers then champion the enterprise transformation process.  Over the past three years companies have realized significant impact in: employee engagement, bottom line impact, & sustainable transformation to world class.

Join Paul as he describes how the traditional Cost of Quality concepts can be used to assure that the needs of quality become part of your business objectives. Business objectives are based on the financial needs/metrics of an organization. Converting quality into financial terms using the Cost of Quality changes quality issues into the language of Sr. Leadership (profit, revenue, growth, cost reduction, etc).

As Paul review concepts there will be plenty of time for discussion and Paul will use real life examples to show in plain language how Cost of Quality can be part of the financial business objectives of a company.

Paul is part of the Ophir-Spiricon team in Logan Utah. Ophir-Spiricon is the world leader in Laser Diagnostics Equipment and calibration. Within the last 3 months Ophir-Spiricon moved into a new 30,000 square foot building in anticipation of future growth.
